It is an artificial cave, where several cycles of frescoes of late-Byzantine style, dating from the XII to the XVI century, can be observed. It is a rock church defined by scholars unique in the panorama of medieval Sicily. The main fresco is a Christ Pantocrator at the center of the apse , blessing and enclosed in an almond , sitting on a throne between two pairs of Angels. On the right side of the apse is a baptismal basin , carved into the rock, for the baptism with the Eastern Rite. Last in order of time, some excavations have brought to light a number of crypts and tombs in earth.
