Pozzo Etrusco

The Etruscan or Sorbello Well, named after the noble family who own the building in which it is located, i san exceptional work of Etruscan hydraulic engineering dating from the 3rd cent. B.C. The cylindrical well has a diameter of about 5,6 metres for the first 12 meters of depth, lined by large stone blocks similar to those used fot the town’s Etruscan walls. The sharf covered at the top by travertine slabs, supported by stone beams set in place without the use of mortar. The well, which is still fed today by 3 veins of water, was an important source of water for the town.
